A Little Wood Craft Idea...

Okay, we all like to get a little crafty sometimes. Heck, even I like to get a little crafty with a little yarn, paint, wood, and stuff like that. Because of that and the fact I like to budget, I need cheap craft supplies.

However, I do have friends who are craftier than I am. They can break out the fabric and make curtains, Halloween costumes, and all of that good stuff. As for me, here is what I do:

1. I buy those wooden plaques.
2. I buy wooden letters
3. I buy acrylic paint in the colors I want
4. I buy wood glue

You can buy this stuff at Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, or any department or hobby store.

I paint the wooden plaque the color I want it to be. I then paint the letters the colors I want them to be. You can lacquer this if you want. Actually, I recommend it. However, I haven't done that with my crafts. What I do is I spell whatever I want with the letters and I glue them onto the wooden plaque with wood glue. I typically make name plaques for childrens' rooms. My older daughter has one and I still need to create one for my younger daughter. I am amazed at how the end result looks like something I had professionally done.

I do tend to buy 2-D or 3-D decals to place onto the plaques to complete the look. I may even paint a background and then make my own border of a different color. For my older daughter, I painted a white background with pink border and pink letters to match with two rose decals. It looks absolutely beautiful. It's a simple wood craft that takes just a few hours from start to finish. You can hang it up however you like. You can notch it in the back, you can attach a string to it, or you can get some of those wall hanger jobbies and do it that way.

If you like this idea, give it a try! :)
